“Diabo”???
Yes, my nickname is “Diabo” (pronounced Gee ah bo). This name was given to me in the tradition of the Capoeria system. My instructor Mestre Rodrigo “AXE” Zerlotti made a comment that when I spar or fight my eyes look evil…like the devil, from that day on I have always been referred to as Diabo.
It is tradition, with Capoeria, to receive a nickname (in Portuguese) that you are forever referred based on your fighting style, attitude, or mannerisms. Some people do not receive a nickname, I was honored to be recognized and to have an official nickname based on this tradition.
